About us

Organised in 17 institutes for transfusion medicine, the German Red Cross Blood Donor Service Baden-Wuerttemberg – Hessen and its affiliate companies employ about 2,000 dedicated FTEs, who are the core to our success.

The Blood Donor Service Baden-Wuerttemberg – Hessen started in 2001 with 5 institutes for transfusion medicine in Baden-Baden, Frankfurt/Main, Mannheim, Ulm/Donau and the affiliate Kassel.

In 2004, we jointly founded the Tuebingen Centre for Clinical Transfusion Medicine (ZKT Tuebingen) together with the University Hospital of Tuebingen. We also established the Heidelberg Institute for Clinical Transfusion Medicine and Cellular Therapy (IKTZ Heidelberg) together with the University Hospital of Heidelberg.

Today, five medical directors of the institutes in Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Mannheim, Tuebingen and Ulm also serve as chairs for transfusion medicine at their respective university hospitals and established a close research network with related fields of clinical medicine such as hematology, hemostaseology, immunology, pediatrics and anaesthesiology.

One subsidiary company (100 %) is the German Red Cross Blood Donor Service North East with eight institutes in Berlin, Chemnitz, Cottbus, Dresden, Goerlitz, Plauen, Potsdam and Zwickau, serving the German states of Saxony, Berlin and Brandenburg and with two institutes in Luetjensee and Schleswig, serving the German states of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.
